Readings for a New Profile in Courage

Step into an inspiring free afternoon event. Through powerful biographical profiles of heroic figures and deeply personal original poetry, each of the nine performers will illuminate what it truly means to stand tall in the face of fear. Join us for a memorable afternoon of storytelling, reflection, and community that will leave you empowered to discover and honor the courage within yourself.

Note: One of the headliners, Levy Lee Simon, will be telling the story of the Haitian Revolution.

Ed Lantz will be profiling Caroline Herschel (1750- 1848), a notable woman astronomer. The presentation will be accompanied by video.

Mark Laisure will be profiling Claudette Colvin an American civil rights activist who refused in 1955 at age 15, to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus.

The event will take place in the West Hollywood Park Recreation and Aquatic Center, just down the walkway (about 50 feet) from the entrance to the West Hollywood library. The address is 8750 El Tovar Place, West Hollywood, CA 90069, situated within the West Hollywood Park (near the main cross street of N. San Vicente Blvd)

Info: Parking for the event is available in the West Hollywood Library parking at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069. The structure is a 5-story municipal parking garage shared with West Hollywood Park. Entrance access is off a short alley on the west side of San Vicente Blvd.
Up to 3 hours free with a validation stamp/code from the library desk. Note: the library is 50 feet down the walkway from the Aquatic Center where the Courage readings are taking place. Make sure to bring your parking ticket inside the library to get scanned or validated before leaving.
