Details to book here: https://www.sarum.ac.uk/short-courses/rst-sermon-mount/The Sermon on the Mount is one of the best known and most-quoted passages in the New Testament, and indeed, in Western culture.
Many of its messages lie at the heart of Jesusβs teaching, so it is crucial that we understand what Jesus was trying to communicate.
While some read the Sermon as a critique of Jewish law, a deeper exploration reveals a Jesus who is deeply engaged with Jewish scripture and ideas about how the Torah should be observed.
On this day, we will read the Sermon through the lens of Jesus as a Jewish teacher speaking to other Jews. We then will explore how his message related to other well-known Jewish teachings of the time, and how his audience might have therefore understood it. And we will finally consider how this can help us, as modern day Christians, enhance our own teaching of this seminal text.
