Calling all our adventurous bookworms! Join us for our inaugural Reading on the Rails trip March 15th. We hope to do more of these trips to other towns on the River Runner route, but for our first trip we will be headed to Jefferson City, MO.
We'll meet up at KD's 8-8:30 am, where you can enjoy coffee, pastries, and browse around for a book or two to keep you entertained on the train. We will then walk over to the Amtrak station and depart LS at 9:15 am, arriving in Jefferson City by noon. The approximately two hour trip will allow ample time to read on the rails, or get to know other book lovers. Once we reach our destination, we’ll have about five hours to grab lunch, visit two local bookstores (Downtown Book & Toy and Antiquarium Books), and even tour the state capitol or state history museum before returning to Lee’s Summit on the evening train (departs JC around 5:30 pm and arrives back in LS shortly before 8 pm).
This ticketed event is $69/person and will include a light breakfast, 20% off KD's purchases that day, your round trip ticket to Jefferson City and back to Lee's Summit, along with snacks/water. A more detailed itinerary will be available closer to the date for those who want to stick together as a group, but you are more than welcome to go explore on your own or individual groups, and meet up with up at any point. Registration closes Feb. 28th. If you want to join after that you may, but are responsible for booking your own train ticket or driving. And of course, everyone is responsible for getting themselves to the train(s) on time! As we will not be able to change tickets later, this event is non-refundable.
