Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route (Southern University at New Orleans)
Lose Your Mother is an exploration of the transatlantic slave trade and its enduring legacy on African and African American identity. By selecting this work for SUNO, the reading group will engage with the painful yet essential history of slavery and its legacy. The book’s exploration of loss, memory, and identity resonates deeply with the history of New Orleans, a city with a complex and rich African American heritage. For SUNO, an institution promoting the upward mobility of diverse populations of traditional and nontraditional students, this book offers a lens through which to understand the historical roots of contemporary social issues and the ongoing quest for justice.
