About your Facilitators:
âď¸Yannick Thoraval is an award-winning writer and teacher. His work has appeared in national publications such as The Conversation, The Financial Review, The Big Issue and The Australian. Yannick was also managing editor of Home Truths: An Anthology of Refugee and Migrant Writing. His debut novel, The Current, a climate fiction, was commended in the Victorian Premierâs Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript. His second novel, White Foam, was shortlisted for Hachette Australiaâs Richell Prize. He has also won the International New Millennium Writings Award for Nonfiction. Yannick holds a masterâs degree in history, a PhD in creative writing, and teaches fiction, creative nonfiction and communications at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. âď¸Dr Rachel Matthews is a Melbourne author, lecturer and teacher. Her debut Vinyl Inside was highly commended in the Australian Vogel Award judges. Siren, her 2017 novel was part of a PhD at Victoria University exploring sexual violence in Australian football. Never Look Desperate is her third novel, reviewed by The Australian and Guardian in 'Best Fiction of 2023'. She has over 20 yearsâ experience as an educator within a diverse range of learning environments, including lecturing in RMITâs Associate Degree in Professional Writing and Editing, ACUâs Bachelor of Creative Arts, international settings, the RVIB and in student welfare at the largest gov school in the state. Rachel is also a contributor to news media.
