Read & Run Chicago Turns 5: A Chicago Cookbook Potluck

This May, the award-winning community organization Read & Run Chicago turns five years old!

Since 2021, we’ve been getting book lovers out and about in the Windy City, encouraging neighborhood exploration while celebrating local authors, libraries, indie bookstores, small businesses, and nonprofits making a difference.

Now, it’s time to celebrate–potluck style!

Read & Run Chicago’s Special Project Committee invites you to join us at Fabrik (440 N Wells) on Wednesday, May 13 from 6-8pm for food, fun, Chicago food trivia, and community.

Whether you’ve been a tried and true community member since the early days or just found out about us last week, we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Wear: Sport your favorite piece of Read & Run Chicago merch or gear from your favorite Chicago local business.

Bring: Gently used books + a dish to share.

• Gently used books: Read & Run Chicago is sponsoring two new Little Free Libraries. Bring book donations of Chicago-based and running-themed books so we can stock the shelves.
• Dish: We’re giving a nod to Chicago’s diverse culinary treasures by inviting readers & runners to bring a homemade dish from a Chicago bookbook (need ideas? We got you covered).

If you’re able to contribute a dish, and bring the cookbook with you to the party to display. No need to purchase–we encourage you to borrow from your local library branch.

is a community organization managed under Read & Run Tours. Founded in 2021, the mission is simple: to use movement and stories to explore Chicago. Programming includes free community meetups like book swaps and reading nights, plus what the organization is most known for: book-themed guided runs where stories take place, all inspired by books set in Chicago, mostly written by local authors. Read & Run Chicago’s ultimate goal is to help Chicagoans better connect with themselves, each other, and the physical spaces they call home. Along the way, Read & Run Chicago champions literacy initiatives, local nonprofits, public libraries, independent bookstores, and the writers who bring Chicago’s communities to life.
