Re-Leaf Agency invites you into an immersive environment of lush movement, rich sounds, provocative text, and larger-than-life video projections of trees, mushrooms, ferns, wildflowers, and streams spanning multiple surfaces. The performers summon you into the woods, amplifying all manner of small and precious flora and fauna, to reveal a needed refuge.
Re-Leaf Agency is a recruitment session disguised as a performance, or maybe it’s a performance disguised as a recruitment session. Either way, this is the last time in 2026 when you can join the Agency to become a keeper of the good. Three Re-Leaf Agents—two dancers and a recruitment officer—implore you to join them in navigating the turbulent times in which we find ourselves. Amidst the anxiety of an unraveling democracy and the impacts of a changing climate, Re-Leaf Agency rekindles hope by taking the long view of the natural world.
This multimedia piece is the culmination of several years documenting a sliver of earth on the edge of Maryland’s South Mountain, during which time MAD Dance director Kit Clark experienced the solace of non-human time while walking and witnessing the land. Re-Leaf Agency shares that profound experience with others. Dancers Amanda Comi and Jeanna Riscigno join Clark in this one-of-a-kind performance.
