On Saturday, January 17, please join us for our annual Midwinter Retreat, a beloved tradition in the Capital District Writing Project. This year, we will explore assessment through the lens of the arts, storytelling, and youth perspectives. To support our inquiries, we will welcome Dr. Limarys Caraballo to lead us in an examination of our own positionalities as educators to allow for a more nuanced understanding of the multiple identities-in-practice that students negotiate in their own lives and academic experiences, and how those identities are shaped by and through assessment.
We will also be joined by local high school writers who will share their writing and perspectives. Across the morning, you will have multiple opportunities to write, share, and connect with others.
Dr. Limarys Caraballo is an Associate Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focuses on students’ multiple identities and literacies, Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), and teaching English in diverse sociocultural contexts.
Please register in advance: https://tinyurl.com/cdwpMWR26. CTLE available.
We invite school leaders, community educators, preservice teachers, high school students, and K-college educators of all content areas and grade levels to join us.
