This is a concert of vivid color, brilliant rhythm, and breathtaking virtuosity. We invite you on a journey that sweeps from the elegant heart of Paris to the fiery dance halls of Argentina, and back again for a dazzling, jazz-filled finale.
Our journey begins in France with Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. This is music of profound elegance and charm. While written as a memorial to friends lost in World War I, the work is not a somber dirge; it is a crisp, graceful, and deeply moving tribute to the spirit of 18th-century French music—a look back to a golden age with wit and a tender heart.
From the refined salons of Paris, we fly to the passionate world of Argentina for Ginastera’s Harp Concerto. This is the harp as you’ve never heard it before. Forget angelic melodies; this is a fiery, rhythmic, and virtuosic showpiece. Ginastera unleashes the instrument's percussive power in a thrilling display of Argentinian folk rhythms and brilliant, modern energy.
Our journey ends with a spectacular musical postcard from the city of lights, written by a brilliant American. Gershwin’s An American in Paris is a joyous, jazz-infused tone poem. You’ll hear the bustling city streets, the blare of taxi horns, a touch of homesick blues, and the unmistakable, romantic swagger of one of the 20th century's most beloved works. It's a spectacular, high-energy finale to a night of brilliant sound.
