Rasa Evenings is our newest intimate recital series at the Mahim store. It’s a space to slow down, listen closely, and experience Indian classical music.
In celebration of the vinyl release of the album CARDINAL, award-winning Hindustani slide guitarist Joel Veena presents an in-store solo concert of traditional and original music alongside dynamic storytelling in Mumbai’s celebrated hub for music enthusiasts, The Revolver Club.
Since 2007, Joel ‘Veena’ Eisenkramer has been traveling between his native Vermont, USA and India to study and perform Hindustani classical music on the 20-stringed Indian slide guitar. Today he is one of the leading exponent’s of this instrument in the world.
Deeply steeped in the oral tradition of the music, Joel began his study of the instrument with Mohan veena player Dr. Ranjan Kumar of Delhi and has also received training from sarod maestro Pt. Alok Lahiri and continues his study with Pt. Anirban Dasgupta of the Shahjahanpur Gharana.
His concert tours have taken him all over India, Europe and the United States. Reviewers have praised Joel’s latest album, saying “The late great George Harrison may have brought this musical spirit into the Western mainstream, but Veena takes Indian guitar right back to its roots, sharing the cathartic charm of North Indian ragas with global ears.” (A&R Factory).
