Guitarist Ramiro Olaciregui presents his Berlin 5tet "TONIC". This group brings together international musicians from the Berlin jazz scene and combines different music genres such as rock & funk in a contemporary jazz setting.
The name TONIC refers to the root of a specific piece of music that allows for structure and coherence. Conceptually, it refers to the idea of being in touch with one's roots. In both music and life, things have a beginning and an end that come from a root and eventually resolve to it.
Olaciregui obtained his BA Degree from Berklee College of Music, Boston, in 2006. Afterwards he moved to New York City. Both in Boston and New York, Ramiro collaborated with some of the strongest names in Jazz today, such as Jimmy Heath, Bob Mintzer, George Garzone, Seamus Blake, Chris Tordini, Tom Kennedy, & John Escreet. Here he also recorded his Debut Album "The Remains".
Ramiro resides in Berlin where he obtained his MA in Jazz Arrangement & Composition in 2022 from the Jazz Institute Berlin and is a strong member of the jazz community of this city.
For the past years Olaciregui has participated in numerous festivals around the world both as a sideman and leader, some include (IAJE) Festival - New York (USA), Mira Jazz Fest (AG), Ecuador Jazz Fest (EC), jazz a la calle (UY), jazzopen stuttgart (DE) and Regensburg jazz weekend (DE).
