This workshop supports Black parents and caregivers in understanding self-regulation across childhood through a culturally grounded lens.
About this Event

Join the Black Parent Collective and Early Roots for a workshop designed to support Black parents and caregivers in understanding self-regulation across early and middle
childhood (ages 0–12) through a culturally grounded and trauma-informed lens. Black children are often expected to
“mature faster,” regulate earlier, and are more likely to be labeled for behaviours that are developmentally
appropriate. As children grow, these expectations often increase—especially in school settings.

This session helps families understand how self-regulation develops over time, how behaviour changes with age, and
how to respond in ways that support emotional development while protecting identity and self-worth.

Parents will leave with practical tools to support their children at different developmental stages, respond to big
emotions with confidence, and advocate for their children in systems where they may be misunderstood.

Doors Open at 6pm with dinner served for all attendees

Workshop starts promptly at 6:30pm
