Rain barrel expert Christian Nicole Ryan and bird rehab specialist Sally Farrell will present two programs combining conservation with nature study beginning at 6 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the East Bank Regional Library (4747 West Napoleon Avenue in Metairie).This event is free of charge and open to the public.
6 pm – Rain Barrels with Christian Nicole Ryan, PhD, executive director, Green Light New Orleans
Rain barrels capture and store some of the rainwater that travels through your home’s downspout when it rains. Rainwater is the ideal choice for watering plants because it’s free of chemicals. In addition to having a freshwater source for gardens and landscaping, the benefits of installing rain barrels include lower monthly water bills, reduced subsidence, less water in the storm water system during heavy rain storms, and a beautiful piece of art in the yard or garden when the rain barrel is decorated.

7 pm – Sally Farrell of Wind in My Feathers presents Rehabbed Raptors
Sally Farrell received her training at the Wildbird Rehabilitation Center of the New Orleans Audubon Zoo. She is a raptor rehabilitator and educator with state and federal permits.
This program consists of a presentation of live, non-releasable raptors with an informative lecture, supplemented with audio and visual aids such as photography, taped bird calls, owl castings, feather displays, skulls and owl feet. A question and answer period will follow the talk.
