Rage Against the Machines: w/ James Whittaker

The world the tech bros built is making us miserable. Depression among children has been declared a national emergency by numerous mental health organizations; preteen suicide is increasing at an annual rate of 8% and suicide is now third largest cause of death among teenagers. 20 and 30 somethings are living with their parents in record numbers. Being an adult is no respite. The only thing making us more miserable than our jobs is not being able to get one. Except maybe the worldwide slide into fascism. Or maybe that the planet is on fire. In fact, take your pic. Misery abounds.

And now these tech bros want to make it even worse with AI.

I say enough. AI is actually the one technology we cannot let them have. Not only can they not paint a vision of an AI future worth wanting, they constantly warn us about its dangers while buying private islands and fortifying compounds in faraway New Zealand so they don’t have to live in the world they are building for the rest of us.

I believe that AI is actually the one tool we can use to fix humanity. In fact it has come just in time to correct so many of this planet’s illnesses. Join me on Nov 12 and again on Nov 20 for an optimistic call to arms about our future with machines and without the tech bros.
