MONTHLY PROMPT: SHAPE

Note new location: Creativity Lab in Richmond Cultural Centre Annex
( across the plaza from Richmond Art Gallery & Cultural Centre)

This month’s theme is SHAPE, inspired by Kia Eriksson's exhibition. Explore the relationship between recognizable images and abstract forms through collage.

Using stencils and freehand cut-paper techniques, participants will transform images and patterned papers into simple shapes that can be layered, combined, and rearranged to create original compositions. Whether your work becomes abstract, representational, or somewhere in between, the focus is on experimentation, play, and personal expression.

The evening begins with a slideshow of contemporary collage artists from around the world to spark inspiration, followed by open studio time. A wide selection of papers and imagery will be available, along with a curated playlist of music videos chosen to inspire creativity through colour, composition, and visual storytelling.

Ages 16+ • $5 per person • All supplies included

First Thursday night of the month, February – December

Join us for an evening of open studio collage-making with access to RAG's extensive collection of materials and tools. Chat, listen to music, sip tea, and create at your own pace.

Monthly prompts and technical demonstrations are offered for inspiration but are never mandatory to follow.
