As part of the Tasmania White Water Week Paddle Tasmania and Hydro Tasmania have arranged a water release on the King River on Tuesday 20 January. The West Coast Paddle Club will be taking rafts down the river for those who do not feel up to kayaking the river. Experienced club members will be guiding the rafts and paddlers need not have any experience. What to Expect. The King River is a quality western Tasmania River flowing through an impressive gorge before exiting into lower flatter country as it makes its way to the trip finish at Lowanna on Macquarie Harbour. The total trip is about 22 km. We will stop somewhere for lunch. The river flows through rainforest with plenty of Huon Pine and relics of west coast railway and mining history. We will need to arrange a car shuffle back from Strahan at the end of the trip so any ideas on this are welcome.
What to bring. Dress suitably for a day on the river. The club has some helmets and PFDs available for those missing some gear. Bring your lunch and drinking water in a suitable container. You must be a WCPC member. If you are already a member of another club it is cheap and easy to also join WCPC. If you are not a club member follow the link on the WCPC Facebook page.
