Raffles Singers Presents: Chiaroscuro - Light & Shadow in Songs

In Chiaroscuro, light and shadow fall on one canvas, capturing the juxtaposition of ideas and tensions through time and space.

We journey through ages, with Mozart’s flowing Ave verum corpus — a classic meditation on redemption — going into Trotta’s fiery Dies Irae, a novel take on the dread of Judgement. In a darkness defined by fear and weariness, we find a light of strength and salvation.

Let's travel through worlds together, traversing the East in our Artistic Director, Toh Ban Sheng’s arrangement of Fengyang Huagu, and the Midwest in Erb’s contemplative Shenandoah, both beloved folksongs that reveal the bond of peoples through the ties of common sorrows and human love.

We will also tread on new ground, with a Singapore premiere of acclaimed Filipino conductor-composer Eudenice Palaruan, and a world premiere of young Singaporean composer Tan Ding Wen. Drawing from our past, we look to the future, illuminating a new path in Singapore’s choral scene.

Join us as we shed Light and Shadow through songs, going on a spiritual and emotional journey from faith to illumination to human love.

• Recommended admission age – Children above 5 years old.

• No admission for infants in arms.

• All patrons must purchase a ticket for entry.

• Admission is subject to tickets produced at the entrance.

• For the enjoyment of all audience members, our performance will start promptly at the time printed on the ticket.

• Please be seated 15 minutes before the performance start time.

• Due to the nature of the performance, admission will only be permitted at a suitable point once the performance has commenced.
