Building on material presented in Radio 101, this course dives deeper into radio technology and emergency communication planning.
After completing this course, participants will understand how to create a basic emergency communication plan and use common features and capabilities of Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios to support the plan.
Topics include:
Hand-held and mobile radios
How frequencies, power, and antennas affect communication range and effectiveness
Simplex and Repeater operations
Communication planning in support of a mission
Designing communications plans using SABON and PACE and a good map
Using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Net Control Stations to manage chaos
Exercising and testing your emergency communication plans as a team
