Want to support one of NYC’s most adventurous cultural institutions? You’ll have the chance to connect, learn more, and get involved with WFMU’s mission to champion spontaneity, experimentation, and original programming that keeps New York City sounding like nowhere else.
Ava Mendoza
Ava Mendoza is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. Best known for her solo guitar and vocal performances, and as the leader of the experimental rock band Unnatural Ways, she has received critical acclaim for her guitar work's compelling combination of technical virtuosity and visceral impact. In any context she is committed to bringing expressivity, energy and a wide sonic range to the music.
Caroline Davis
Caroline Davis is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, and activist, whose work is driven by a desire for connection and a belief in music’s capacity to expand listeners’ ears, minds, and hearts. A 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Composition, she is the recipient of the DownBeat Critics Poll Alto Saxophone Rising Star Award, as well as fellowships from NYFA, the Jerome Foundation, Chamber Music America, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Her residencies include MacDowell, The Jazz Gallery, Civitella, and the Rockefeller Estate, and she has served as a mentor for New Music USA’s Next Jazz Legacy program.
SAHA GNAWA
SAHA GNAWA brings North African futurism to the U.S., uniting the founders of Innov Gnawa with leading figures from New York City's jazz and contemporary music scenes to reimagine modern Gnawa music. [here's more I pulled if you need] Co-leader DANIEL FREEDMAN, a drummer and composer, brings decades of experience collaborating with artists like David Byrne and Angelique Kidjo, as well as deep knowledge of traditions from Africa and the Middle East.. The ensemble also features AMINO BELYAMANI (Innov Gnawa, Dawn of Midi) and DAVID LIZMI (Innov Gnawa, Bombino) on qraqebs and backing vocals, JASON LINDNER (David Bowie, Now vs Now) on keys and synths, and GUILHERME MONTEIRO (Gal Costa, Forro in the Dark).
Human Hair
“Veterans Pat Murano (Decimus, No Neck Blues Band) and Richard Hoffman (Organs Obsolete, Sightings) offer you a way out of this world via twisty rhythms and ethereal soundscapes. Let’s all quit our day jobs!”
WFMU DJS:
India Roman
India hosts the radio show Ear Racing on WFMU but has never DJed publicly, so is still getting her sea legs. She's hoping all will go well and that she might get a drink ticket out of it.
Jeremiah Stewart Radio Host WFMU
Described by Süddeutsche Zeitung as a “hero of the microphone,” Jeremiah hosts Sunrise Lamentations on the venerable, ardently anarchic institution of the airwaves that is WFMU every Saturday morning, 3 am-6 am, soundtracking breakfast for sundry Europeans and putting local insomniacs to bed with an eclectic blend of ambient, world, jazz, and miscellany. Later that night, you can find him around town at various venues playing aggressively open-format dance music, spanning disco, punk, italo, Rai, freestyle, house–whatever works. Not one to gather dust, off the air and away from the dancefloor, he is an artist, film editor, part-time saxophonist, psychoanalyst, and all-around bon vivant.
