This 6 week series utilizes Omid Safi’s text Radical Love: Teachings From the Islamic Mystical Tradition to explore and understand the importance of love within Islamic teachings and tradition.
Participants will read poems and sayings from various Islamic texts and thinkers like Rumi, Rabi'a, 'Attar, Hafez, and Hazrat Inayat Khan, as translated by Safi, to illuminate the connection between love and the divine. Together, we'll explore the divine as higher power, as beloved, and as self.
The series will include reading, historical and cultural grounding, small and large group discussion, gentle movement, writing, and reflection, culminating in a final project inviting participants to create their own tasbeeh/prayer beads, which are used to express love, devotion, and remembrance.
This series is open to people of all faith and philosophical orientations who hold an interest in and respect for love in its many forms.
