Radical Empathy Lab (REL) is a nomadic, socio-ecological and experimental lab that challenges the metrics-driven notion of the laboratory by activating a holistic knowledge production.
Inspired by Deep Listening as well as radical and feminist pedagogies, REL invites participants to an affective encounter that embraces relational — versus informational — learning, weaving the sensing body into transdisciplinary, holistic approaches intertwined with the cognitive. How can new forms of being together allow us to reflect and re-feel? REL seeks to activate the affective in-between space of relationalities, inviting us to imagine social and ecological relationality otherwise — against a reactionary an-aesthesia. Playfully, the lab rehearses a reconnection to the sensual and experiential, working toward a critical consciousness of interconnectedness, and practising what Brazilian theorist Suely Rolnik calls an "active micropolitics“.
REL moves through time and place as a question, a slogan, an intervention, an action, an affective encounter, and a place — exploring how to activate a micropolitical and holistic understanding of empathy as "affective translation" and as a celebration of plurality (Carolyn Pedwell).
All bodies are welcome. Come in comfortable clothes, bring a yoga mat or something to lie on the floor. Come with an open mind and heart. Drink and snacks provided.

Dr. Berit Fischer is a Berlin-based transdisciplinary cultural practitioner working internationally as a curator, artist, researcher, writer, and lecturer. Her work focuses on socio-ecological knowledge formation, critical spatial practice, and transformative cultural methodologies inspired by alternative, feminist, radical, and eco-pedagogies.
In 2016, she founded the Radical Empathy Lab as an ongoing nomadic socio-ecological art and research laboratory for relational and experiential learning. She is also the founder and curator of (Re-)Gaining Ecological Futures, a transdisciplinary learning platform and festival at Floating University Berlin exploring ecological futures, post-anthropocentric thought, and regenerative forms of coexistence between human and the living world.
She is co-founder of the International Forum for Eco-Embodied Arts and the performative project detours.
She holds a PhD from the University of Southampton/Winchester School of Art. Her work has been presented over two decades internationally across universities, art institutions, festivals, and independent cultural spaces.
