Join YWCA Metro St. Louis at the Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center for a powerful evening of reflection, education, and conversation as part of our Racial Justice Speaker Series. We will host a screening of I Bear Witness: The Untold Stories of American Race Riots, a compelling short documentary co-directed by Tiffany Lee and Drew Brown. This eye-opening film examines five historic race riots through the words of victims and eyewitnesses, using historical records to spotlight the trauma Black communities have endured for over a century. I Bear Witness challenges the myth that race riots were isolated incidents, instead revealing a long and painful history of racially motivated violence aimed at silencing Black voices and progress.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A session with Tiffany Lee, the film’s producer and co-director, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage directly with one of the creators and explore the themes of the documentary more deeply.
This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required.
