Cork Concert Orchestra Presents an Evening of Epic Orchestral Music at Cork City HallCork, Ireland — The Cork Concert Orchestra, a voluntary orchestra based in Cork City, is delighted to present a major symphonic concert on Saturday, March 7th at 8.00pm at Cork City Hall. Close to 100 players will take to the stage under the baton of Internationally renowned guest conductor Neil Thomson, promising an evening of richly expressive and powerful orchestral music.
The programme opens with Gustav Holst’s Beni Mora (Amin Op. 29 No. 1), a vivid and atmospheric work inspired by Holst’s travels in North Africa, full of colour, rhythmic vitality and exotic soundscapes.
This is followed by Charles Villiers Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody No. 4, Op. 141, a work that draws deeply on Irish musical traditions and reflects Stanford’s profound connection to his homeland, blending folk influences with late-Romantic orchestral writing.
The concert culminates in one of the great masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire: Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27. Renowned for its sweeping melodies, emotional depth and lush orchestration, the symphony provides a thrilling and moving finale to the evening.
The Cork Concert Orchestra is proud to bring together musicians from across the region, united by a shared passion for orchestral music and performance at the highest standard. This concert promises to be a highlight of the season for music lovers in Cork and beyond.
