Fall Tea Party: Preparing for the season

September's monthly tea party at Rab's Roots Herbal Farmstead will be all about what to expect for the Fall! As we move into fall, the season of hard work and preparation, we begin to stock up for the winter ahead. This time of year is all about getting ready for an effective rest and reset during the colder months. We gather our entertainment, food, supplies, and remedies for common ailments like colds, flus, and seasonal mood changes.

At this month's tea party, we're not just talking about immune-boosting remedies—we're making one together! We'll be preparing fire cider, a traditional tonic that’s perfect for warding off the winter sniffles. I'll have some basic ingredients on hand to share as I too will make my family jars and fulfill pre-orders. I invite you to bring your own jars, herbs, and any additional ingredients you want to include for your family's needs this season. We'll go through the steps together, so everyone leaves with a jar of fire cider ready to cure in the pantry for the 4-5 weeks so that you can use it all winter. It doesn't expire for a year when stored in the fridge, and can last six months if you leave it out.

Celebrate fall, the second work season of the year, with delicious teas and great company. Whether you're an herbal tea lover or just looking to unwind, this event is perfect for everyone, families included. Come explore our beautiful farmstead, learn about herbal remedies, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Here’s a list of ingredients to bring if you’d like to make your own fire cider:

• 1 medium onion per jar
• A bulb or two of garlic
• Jalapeño or another spicy pepper like Scotch Bonnet, Cayenne, or Ghost
• Lemon
• Fresh ginger root
• Fresh horseradish
• Fresh or powdered turmeric
• Cayenne powder
• Rosemary
• Apple cider vinegar
• Raw honey

You can add an array of ingredients, based on your individual needs, like lemon grass, elderberries, ginseng, astralus, and more.
