The Council on Substance Abuse (COSA) is observing its second annual R U OK? Day campaign. This campaign is a worthy cause to participate in and support, while making a difference. One simple question, "R U OK?" can lead individuals to meaningful conversations with family, friends, clients, customers, patients, and colleagues who might be struggling with life and need to be connected to services before they are in crisis or considering suicide.
Last year, over 30 organizations and individuals participated in this observance across Montgomery. We want more participants this year!
Founded in Australia in 2009 by Gavin Larkin, R U OK? Day was inspired by the loss of his father to suicide. Larkin dedicated his life to encouraging people to ask one simple, but powerful question, "Are you okay?"
A simple question can open the door to connection, support, and hope. This R U OK? Day, take a moment to check in, listen, and let someone know they are not alone. Ask the question. Start the conversation. Make a difference, and be the difference!
