About this Event
🔍Quincy Discovery Ride🔍
đź“… When: Sunday Oct 5th. Meet at 9:00 am, Wheels spin at 9:15 am
📍 Where: Merrymount Park in Quincy. 1 Merrymount Pkwy Quincy MA 02170. Park in the large paved parking lot at the end of the parkway next to Pageant Field. There's room for 30 cars with additional parking along the parkway. The group meets near the Amphitheater.
🚴‍♂️ What to Expect: 20 miles | 2.5 - 3 hours | 8-10 mph average pace with periodic stops. 50% dirt/50% pavement - this is an urban assault ride with a mix of everything - singletrack, dirt, gravel, and pavement. We will be sticking around Quincy Bay with amazing ocean views of Boston and the islands. Locally we call this area Quincy Loops because we loop around the fun parts of singletrack and dirt. It's the city, so there's pavement connecting all these off-road sections, so prepare to be riding 10 miles of pavement at a 10+ mph pace. If you have a hardtail or gravel bike, join us - the singletrack dirt sections are not very technical, and I frequently do this loop on my gravel bike with 40c tires. We are going down Quincy Shore Drive, which does have lots of people and cars - highly suggest bringing a rear blinky light.
Join us for an intermediate-level ride. Due to the 20-mile distance and pace, this ride is not for beginners, but it's not an advanced 15mph+ hammerfest. We are going to enjoy the beauty of the ocean, get the most out of the short, fun sections of dirt, and show there's actually good riding here in Quincy. Maybe after the ride you will get some clams at Tony's or lobster rolls at Clam Box?!
🪖What to Bring:
- Working mountain bike - can be hardtail or full suspension - or gravel bike
- Helmet
- Rear blinky light is recommended - we will be on the road
- Water - there are spots on Quincy Shore drive to refill water. Electrolyte, sugar, and carb-replenishing trail snacks encouraged
My goal is to give all riders a fun, unique experience that's not the typical mountain bike ride. Show up on two wheels and bring your positive vibes. Nobody will be left behind, but early bailouts are available at mile 13.
