Celebrate Juneteenth and see history from a new perspective with a presentation by artist Khristel Johnson at the Civic Center Library.
For thirty years Khristel Johnson had the privilege of working as a public servant in education. In July of 2019 she retired from the Santa Clara County Office of Education as Director and concluded her career in traditional education. This transition signified a freedom and responsibility to be fully engaged as an agent of change and share the often omitted and frequently distorted narrative about the history and contributions of African Americans.
Combining her commitment as a lifelong learner and change agent with her love of crafts, Khristel decided to utilize the medium of quilts to tell the African American story. What began as a personal journey years ago evolved into a 60+ quilt collection that she has shared at various venues throughout the state and beyond. It is her sincere hope that her quilted tapestries will serve to inform, inspire and empower others to embark on their personal journey and discovery of phenomenal courage, exceptional intellect and countless contributions of African Americans.
