About this Event
Queering the Far Right
As part of the Pride Month 2026 programme at Queen Mary University of London, the EDI Team presents a thought‑provoking seminar exploring the relationship between sexual and political identities in far right contexts, featuring research shared by a member of our Queen Mary staff community.
This session will be led by Dr Joshua James, an early career researcher from Aotearoa New Zealand. His work explores the relationship between sexual and political identities, with broader interests in Westminster political systems and student equity.
The session examines how individuals actively shape and reconcile identities often assumed to be incompatible. Drawing on historical and contemporary research, the talk invites critical reflection on identity, ideology and belonging, and challenges assumptions about the relationship between queerness and political alignment.
This is a hybrid event. Queen Mary staff and students are welcome to attend in person, while external attendees will be able to join online via MS Teams. Details for both options will be shared with registered attendees in advance.
There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.
Questions in advance can be sent to Joshua James at [email protected].
