An accessible introduction to Sophrology: a body-based practice combining breathwork, movement and guided embodied meditations
About this Event

What happens when we stop treating the body as something to control, correct or perform, and start treating it as a source of information?

Queering the Bodymind is a one-hour, accessible introduction to Sophrology: a body-based practice that combines breathwork, movement and guided embodied meditations to support greater awareness and nervous system regulation.

Designed with LGBTQ+ experiences in mind, this workshop explores the relationship between the body, nervous system and sense of self.

Together, we’ll experiment with simple techniques for noticing what’s happening in the body, shifting our physical and emotional state, and developing a more intentional relationship with our own internal experience.

Expect very gentle movement, grounding exercises, breathwork and more, with plenty of choice around how you participate. No previous experience is needed, and everything can be adapted to your own body and comfort level.

This is not about fixing or changing yourself. It’s an opportunity to get curious about your body, explore different ways of inhabiting it, and take away a few practical tools you can use in everyday life.

The agenda

  • Welcome and introduction - option to share one word with the group on how each participant is feeling
  • Explanation of all exercises to follow, with demonstrations and space for questions and adjustments
  • Full body scan, seated or standing as preferred, with eyes closed if comfortable
  • A series of guided movements and breathing exercises with eyes closed (if comfortable), all of which can be adapted as needed
  • 10-minute journalling, writing down any and all sensations noticed throughout the session
  • Option to share, then finishing with one word (also optional)

This event is supported by the London Marathon Foundation.
