Queering Death: A Free End-of-Life Planning Clinic for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers
About this Event
End-of-life planning is not an easy subject, and is often more complex for many individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. Choices can be dismissed without proper legal, financial, and medical decisions in place, especially for those who lean on chosen versus biological families.
Prior to the NYC Pride Open House on Thurs. Oct. 29, one of our 2026 grantees, Chosen Family Law Center, will be on-site offering a complimentary session on end-of-life planning for LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers and families.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Develop and notarize simpler documents on-site, such as a Power of Attorney
- Learn more about longer-term processes like Wills, Medical Advance Directives, and Healthcare Proxies
- Work with queer death doula Dee Dee Waters to discuss concerns about remembrance, legacy, and loss as a group
This event will take place at 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at NYC Pride’s offices at 154 Christopher Street, Suite 2A, New York NY, 10014.
Attendees are encouraged to stay after the event for NYC Pride's October Open House & Queer Halloween Party, a spooky edition of our monthly Open House events. These are free, casual opportunities to come to NYC Pride's office to meet new people, enjoy light bites, and learn more about getting involved with our work.
