Queer Life:Moving takes inspiration from the original project www.lifemoving.org and focuses on research that suggests LGBTQIA+ members encounter barriers to accessing services. These films aim to create understanding, reflection and change.

Queer Life:Moving refers to a participatory research and filmmaking project that explores the end-of-life and care experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals. By co-creating films, the project highlights the heteronormativity and discrimination frequently faced within end-of-life services, amplifying underrepresented voices from the community.

The work was inspired by the original Life:Moving initiative, which co-created films with hospice patients to challenge the misrepresentation of terminal illness. The queer-focused extension applies this same creative practice and cathartic expression to understand specific vulnerabilities, from fear of homophobia to micro-aggressions, from involuntary closeted-ness to real and imagined violations of trans identity, the project reveals a range of issues of concern to those committed to equitable practice. But it also shares with us rarely seen stories of long-term gay and lesbian couples’ relationships and love. Queering end of life, the project offers important insights into the benefits of thinking more expansively, more queerly, about death and dying.

This event is a free film showing followed by a reflective workshop.
