Queer Goddess Archetypes: A Six-Week LGBTQIA+ Yoga Journey of Embodiment
About this Event
🌈 Queer Goddess Archetypes
A Six-Week LGBTQIA+ Yoga Journey of Embodiment, Identity & Becoming
For people who identify as LGBTQIA+ in any expression or form. This isn't for allies, but if you're questioning please do come along. Wherever you are in your journey - all of you is welcome.
What if you could explore the qualities you want to embody — not just by thinking about them, but by experiencing them in your body?
This six-week LGBTQIA+ yoga series uses goddess and mythological archetypes as creative doorways into exploring queer identity, embodiment and possibility.
Each week we'll explore a different archetype and the themes and qualities it evokes — from sovereignty and righteous anger to independence, belonging, love and truth.
But this isn't a mythology class or a discussion group.
The yoga is the vehicle.
Through Kundalini yoga, breathwork, meditation, Yoga Nidra and restorative yoga, alongside other practices woven into the sessions, we'll explore these themes through the body rather than simply thinking about them.
Because sometimes we know what we want intellectually, but our bodies haven't caught up yet.
Maybe you want to own your personal power, but taking up space feels uncomfortable.
Maybe you want to access your righteous anger, but anger feels threatening.
Maybe you want to be more unapologetically yourself, but you've learned to adapt yourself to fit in.
Maybe you long for belonging while simultaneously needing freedom.
Maybe you want to embrace parts of your identity, desire or expression that you've previously hidden.
What happens when, instead of just thinking about these qualities, you practise embodying them?
🐍 Kundalini — the energy of becoming
Kundalini is often described as a powerful, transformative energy within us — the potential to shift, change, evolve and become more fully ourselves.
Traditionally symbolised as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine, Kundalini is worked with through yoga practices that invite this energy to rise through the body and expand into our wider experience.
For this series, this becomes a particularly rich way to explore becoming — connecting with the parts of ourselves that are ready to grow, change, transform or take up more space.
Through movement, breath, mantra, meditation and energetic practices, we'll explore what it feels like to work with our own energy and potential for transformation — not to become someone else, but to become more fully who we already are.
🌈 The six-week journey
Week 1 — Medb
Sovereignty & Personal Power
22 September
What does it feel like to belong fully to yourself?
Inspired by Medb and themes of sovereignty, autonomy and personal power, we'll explore what it means to take up space, make our own choices and connect with our own sense of authority.
What happens when you stop waiting for permission?
Week 2 — Kali
Righteous Anger, Activism & Transformation
29 September
Anger can be uncomfortable. It can also contain information, energy and the potential for change.
Inspired by Kali and themes of fierceness, transformation and the destruction of what no longer serves, we'll explore anger as an embodied experience — making space for its energy without allowing it to define us.
What might your anger be trying to tell you?
And what might you want to do with that energy?
Week 3 — Lilith
Independence & Being True to You
6 October
What happens when you stop trying to make yourself acceptable to everyone else?
Inspired by Lilith and themes of independence, autonomy and self-definition, we'll explore the courage to be ourselves — including the parts of us that others may find challenging or uncomfortable.
Through embodied practice, we'll experiment with taking up space, trusting ourselves and listening to our own internal knowing.
What becomes possible when you stop asking for permission to be yourself?
Week 4 — Selkie
Shape-Shifting, Belonging & Finding Home
13 October
Selkie stories offer a doorway into questions of identity, transformation and belonging.
Where do you feel at home?
Where do you change shape to fit in?
And what would it mean to create more space for yourself?
We'll explore fluidity, adaptation, belonging and the experience of coming home to ourselves.
Week 5 — Aphrodite & Sappho
Love, Desire & Connection
20 October
What does it mean to love who you love — and to allow love to take many forms?
Inspired by Aphrodite and Sappho, we'll explore love, desire, pleasure, intimacy, friendship, chosen family and connection.
Through movement, breath and meditation, we'll explore what it feels like to open, connect and receive while staying connected to our own boundaries and autonomy.
What does love look like when we allow it to exist on our own terms?
Week 6 — Tlazolteotl
Truth, Expression & Embracing Complexity
27 October
We finish by exploring the possibility that all of us can contain contradictions, complexity and truth.
Inspired by Tlazolteotl and themes of transformation, truth and the acceptance of what is often considered taboo or unacceptable, we'll explore what happens when we stop trying to edit ourselves into something more palatable.
What parts of yourself have you been taught are too much, too strange, too sexual, too emotional or otherwise unacceptable?
What happens when you allow yourself to be expressed more fully?
What feels true for you, right now?
🧘♀️ What to expect
Each 75-minute session will weave together different practices, including:
Kundalini yoga — movement, breath, mantra, meditation and energetic practices exploring our potential for transformation and becoming.
Breathwork — using conscious breathing to connect with the body, shift our energy and explore different states of awareness.
Meditation — creating space to notice thoughts, sensations, emotions and inner experience without needing to change them.
Restorative yoga — supported, restful postures that invite softness, release and deeper awareness.
Yoga Nidra — guided deep relaxation and embodied awareness, offering a different way of experiencing ourselves through stillness and rest.
Other yoga practices and techniques may be woven in depending on the theme and the needs of the group.
The practices are invitations, not requirements. You can adapt practices for your body, take rest when you need it and choose how you participate.
You won't be expected to perform, achieve or push yourself into a particular shape.
🏳️🌈 Who is this for?
This series is specifically for LGBTQIA+ adults who want to explore identity, embodiment, community and connection through yoga.
You don't need previous yoga experience.
You don't need to identify with every archetype.
You don't need to be spiritual or believe in goddesses.
You don't need to have your identity completely figured out.
You just need to bring your curiosity and your willingness to explore.
There is no single way to be LGBTQIA+ and no particular identity you need to arrive at.
The invitation is to notice:
What feels true for me, right now?
🌿 A note on the archetypes
The figures explored in this series come from a range of cultural, mythological and spiritual traditions.
This series is not intended to teach or reproduce those traditions, nor to claim a definitive interpretation of these figures.
Instead, we're using the themes and qualities they evoke as creative starting points for contemporary, queer and embodied exploration.
The focus is on what these archetypes can invite us to explore within ourselves, approached with curiosity and respect for the cultures and traditions from which they originate.
