Lidia Yuknavitch wrote The Chronology of Water to purge a difficult childhood shaped by her controlling, abusive father and numbed out mother. What followed was addiction, grief and self-annihilation.
Shot on 16mm to create the feeling you are looking directly at memory, writer/director Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame, rejects conventional biographical storytelling in favour of a fragmented, visceral approach mirroring the way in which trauma is remembered as feelings, not memories simply recounted. Led by a fearless multi-award-winning performance from Imogen Poots, Stewart’s film adaptation is a powerful exploration of resilience, creativity and the possibility of transformation against the odds.
