An exciting anthology of three new plays from local playwright Louis Davenport, one of which is hot off the heels at a sold out night at the Bristol Old Vic!
Who Killed Karl Heinrich Ulrichs?
“Absurdist, comedic and thought-provoking.”
“I was gripped throughout!”
“Sharp and quick.”
- Feedback from our previous staging
A body is found! Murder is afoot! Not to worry, we have many accomplished historic doctors here to examine the case and dissect the evidence! But all is not as it seems and soon the corpse may have more to say than first expected…
Previously staged at the Bristol Old Vic, Who Killed Karl Heinrich Ulrichs is an absurdist historical black comedy that deals with myth-making and medicalisation from a queer perspective.
The Last Ride of Julie d’Aubingy
After a rip-roaring life of lusty affairs, bloody sword duels, and terrorising European royal courts by wearing trousers, Julie d’Aubigny has settled down with her husband to focus on her pioneering career in the French Opera (yes the French Opera). All goes awry though when a lover of hers, the glamorous Madame de Florensac, infiltrates Julie’s house to murder her husband and rescue her from domestic life. Will Julie take up the sword again, or will she remain at home with the enduring love of her life?
The Last Ride of Julie d’Aubigny is a slackstick comedy that reflects on how we keep duality in our lives and the enduring human love of living on the edge through the lens of a pioneering queer woman’s life.
Gladiators
One moment you’re here. Next you’re cold and isolated from everyone you love. Balacrus and Franklin find themselves here, together left to question how 1900 years have been bridged. However, as the two grow closer, the true intentions of their captors becomes apparent.
Gladiators is a romantic drama exploring connection across time and how we define ourselves has changed. It provides a new spin on the traditional romantic genre, drawing on historical queer identities.
Queer Eyes On Queer Lives discusses medicalisation of sexuality and homo/queerphobia. It also features bladed weapons, blood, and descriptions of injuries.
