Queer Climbers: Potluck & Film "Grateful to Be on the Land"

The gym is closed to the public, but we're happy they're opening it just for Chalked Up(state) Queer Climbers again. New people welcome!

"Iikaiksimatsa’pao’p (Grateful to Be on the Land) follows Cassie Ayoungman, founder of Soul of Miistaki and member of the Siksika nation, on her journey to bring the healing power of the mountains to those within her community. Breaking down barriers to climbing, and integrating Indigenous teachings and land-based learning, she raises questions about representation, builds community, and redefines what it means to be on the land." -from Arc'teryx Alberta

Please label the ingredients of your potluck food! No one will be turned away for not bringing food.

All experience levels, bodies, and abilities welcome. If it's your first time, don't worry - we'll help you climb your first walls, and there are routes set for all levels. There's also a cool cave system if climbing isn't your thing.

The gym features two separate climbing areas with over 50 top rope and bouldering routes, a 45 degree climbing wall, and 1/3 mile of interconnected indoor caving routes. Each climbing route is graded using a circuit grading system, which categorizes each climb into a range of grades.

• Restrooms: Single stall all-gender bathroom off the common room, which is located to the right of the gym’s entrance and over a small step.
• Accessibility: Both climbing areas are accessible via an outside door at parking lot level. The gym is working on installing a low grade for the step between the two rooms. There is a ~1in step onto the climbing mats from the floor. The second floor party room can be accessed via the stairs behind the 45 degree climbing wall.
