About this Event

Xtreme Hip Hop Step is a high-energy fitness class that combines step aerobics with hip hop music and dance, offering a fun and full-body cardio workout with dynamic routines set to old and new school tracks.

This inaugral Q&W step class will be taught by the SFLGBT Center's very own Director of Cultural Programs, Timothy Hampton.

What it is:

Xtreme Hip Hop Step is a fitness program that blends the traditional step aerobics format with the energy and rhythm of hip hop music.

How it works:

The class features dynamic routines set to hip hop music, with instructors calling out the steps and moves over the music.

Benefits:

It provides a fun and effective way to get a full-body cardio workout, improve coordination and balance, and burn calories.

Accessibility:

The classes are designed to be accessible for all fitness levels, with modifications available for beginners and experienced steppers alike.

Origin:

The Xtreme Hip Hop program was created by Phil Wheeden in 2013 and has grown in popularity since he began touring around the US and other countries instructing Xtreme Hip Hop classes.

Examples of movements:

Classes include movements like high knees, kicks, punches, jumping jacks, and more, designed to raise your heartbeat and burn calories.

Meet Your Teacher:

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Timothy’s passion for advocating for the LGBT community began in his living room and online. He regularly facilitated community discussions around living with HIV as a Black man. Timothy increased his online presence in less than two years by tackling challenging topics where he reached over 200,000 viewers. In 2016, Timothy created an emotionally charged “edutainment” musical theatre production entitled “You Shall LHiV 2: ZERO.” For nearly three years, Timothy and his production traveled the nation and performed for over 50,000 people at conferences, boardrooms, and community events.

While being a champion in the community, Timothy served as the program coordinator for a CDC-funded project called MYHOUSE, a collaborative effort between Street Works and Nashville CARES. Timothy Hampton combines his passion for advocating for the LGBT community with his dream of living in the Bay Area. In 2018, he moved to Pittsburg, California with a shifted passion focused on helping others live holistically through meditation, prayer, crystal healing, and mudras. Timothy served as the planning coordinator for a non-profit in the Bay Area, where he provided oversight for six locations using innovative strategies for increasing their online learning community by addressing person-centeredness. Though Timothy is now working in a different capacity, his passion for the arts, musical theater, advocacy, and community education remains a highlight in his journey. Timothy enjoys practicing mindful meditation, crystal collecting, and researching many types of holistic healing.
