Dance at the Plaza: Zumba [All Levels] with Carmen Ye

Class Description:

Zumba is a fitness program that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance founded by Colombian dancer and choreographer Beto Pérez in 2001. Zumba incorporates four basic rhythms including Salsa, Reggaeton, Merengue and Cumbia with each basic rhythm having four core steps. In this class you should expect a high energy environment with easy to follow choreography to form the ultimate calorie-burning experience. Music genres may include Latin beats, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, and Pop music.

Location: All Fitness Court classes are outdoors at Civic Center / UN Plaza - 3537 Fulton Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. Located between Hyde Street and Market Street.

Carmen (she/her) grew up in San Francisco and has lived a little bit everywhere in the last 10 years - Hong Kong, Washington DC, Ann Arbor, and St Louis. She was a Zumba student for many years before becoming certified to teach in 2019. In the middle of mental health challenges in graduate school, dance fitness and movement became a reliable source of comfort and positivity. Carmen hopes to bring that same joy of dance to others with a high-impact style, incorporating traditional Latin rhythms with soca, hip hop, and pop. 

Carmen has traveled to 41 countries, has spent many years becoming fluent in Spanish and her native Cantonese, and the love of her life is her dog, Leche.
