Racy for its time, the film follows Christina from her coronation through the end of her reign. There is no denying the camera loves Garbo, as does her on-screen partner (and real life ex- fiancé) John Gilbert and her off-camera, rumored paramour Salka Viertel, who penned a portion of the script.
