Come and enjoy an outdoor festival in Quebec’s winter wonderland with MYA! We’ll be there on opening night for Winter Carnival and stay a long weekend to get in all of the fun we possibly can. Enjoy outdoor snow inspired adventuring, yoga sessions, yummy vegetarian food, sweet accommodations in the old city, strolling, skating & sledding, and so much more…One of our afternoons and/or eves can be spent at Valcartier, a wicked playground with an ice hotel, amazing tubing runs, a lit skateway, and an indoor waterpark. Adventurers get to decide how much they’d like to take on; a kind of choose your own adventure, riding a chill vibe or a do all the things vibe.
The winter carnival features super cool ice and snow sculptures, works of art made from giant blocks of snow and ice. These sculptures transform the city into a wonderful outdoor museum. The 100%-made-of ice Palace of Bonhomme is less than a 15 minute walk from our apartments. Bonhomme Carnaval, the snowman character, symbolizes the spirit of fun of this winter celebration. Every year the palace serves as a focal point for several Carnival activities.
There will also be the "Laser Game Evolution" at the Citadelle de Quebec, a magical night parade, and live music in a fairy-tale setting. Adventurers may like to watch the ice canoe racing, an extreme competitive sport where teams make multiple crossings of the frigid waters of the St. Lawrence River.
Our excursion to Valcartier will be epic! We’ll visit the Hôtel de Glace (ice hotel) with art and wintertime spectacle greeting you as soon as you enter the Grand Hall. The rooms are decorated with majestic sculptures with each one touting a different theme. We may want to indulge in a delicious cocktail served in a glass made of ice.
It will be up to each individual adventurer if they’d like to partake in the water park, Bora Parc, a Polynesian-style park with a large wave pool, over 14 water slides, an adventure river, a double surf wave attraction, and a restaurant with terrace. Adventurers can soak in a tropical paradise in the middle of winter; the cost for an evening frolic is $44.
Tubing is another area of excitement that we may want to get in on as well! We can bring along our ice skates, skis, and snowshoes to get in lots of extra snow specific activities :) If adventurers want to go in a different direction or add it into the adventure, there’s a nordic spa thermal experience in Old Quebec that we may want to explore for ultimate relaxation (yesss please!).
Our accommodations for three nights will be in quaint old Quebec; two twin beds and a queen bed in the main gathering apartment and a king bed and sofa bed in the second apartment. A third apartment can be rented if more space is necessary. The 19th century property is located directly on the famous rue Saint-Jean in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the Upper Town. The rooms have a spacious and bright character but best of all, views of historic Old Québec can be enjoyed from the roof-top terrace. With restaurants & pubs very close by, the Citadelle de Quebec is .6 mi away and the Chapel Museum of French America is 3 mi away.
Daily yoga will be offered up as well as outdoor snowga! Yummy vegetarian breakfasts, dinners, and happy hours will be served by MYA, lunches will be up to adventurers out on the town. The add-ons of spas, tubing, waterpark etc. will be up to adventurers, if we have consensus, tickets can be purchased ahead of time.
Don’t miss out on a wicked fun long weekend in a beautiful place with the quaint coolness of a European city to celebrate the wonderland that is the Quebec Winter Carnival!
