QCMS Presents: An Evening With Michael Clem

Join us in the cozy Storefront Listening Room at Queen City Music Studios for an evening with acclaimed Charlottesville songwriter Michael Clem as we welcome him back to Staunton for his Residency here at QCMS! Michael will be teaching a four-session Songwriting Class with us this Fall, and we're stoked to share his unique brand of heartfelt songs and wry humor in a Friday evening House Concert.
One of Virginia's favorite musical storytellers, Michael has a gift for sharing the kind of honest connection that makes a house concert feel like an evening with old friends. ABOUT MICHAEL CLEM: Michael Clem is an award-nominated Charlottesville singer-songwriter known for his sharp songwriting, warm stage presence, and witty storytelling. A 2022 and 2024 Best of C-VILLE "Music Artist" nominee, Clem spent 31 years as bassist, vocalist, and songwriter for the nationally touring folk-rock band Eddie from Ohio, releasing nine independent albums and earning numerous Washington Area Music Association Awards.

"One of my biggest turning points has been the acquisition of my first upright bass from Fretwells in Staunton VA. I’m finally able to hop into picking jams as well as bluegrass gigs, most notably with Gallatin Canyon, who circulate some of the area’s finest players in ‘grass. The upright world has also opened the door to a few traditional Country Swing and Honky Tonk bands, like The Get Rights and The Deputies." - Clem

Now a fixture of Charlottesville's music scene, Clem performs in a variety of solo and ensemble settings, hosts the long-running Monday Songwriter Night at The Local, and teaches songwriting at The Front Porch. His latest album, Circus Brawl (2024), blends bluegrass, folk, and roots rock with an all-star cast of Virginia musicians.

The Washington Post calls him "a songwriter, a guitarist and observational comedian," while WTJU's Aer Stephen praises his insightful songs, sly wit, and heartfelt social commentary.
Michael is a true showman: “…the man impossible not to like, ” says Cville Weekly, to which Michael responds, "If only that was true, but yes, this was actually written about me. I’ve had great trepidation quoting it for promotional purposes, but after consulting with my priest, spiritual adviser, tennis coach & parole officer, I plan to use it in every possible way until my last dying breath. I’m even contemplating a back tat…"
