Join us to learn Ulana Lau Niu — the traditional Hawaiian art of weaving coconut fronds. In this hands-on, cultural workshop, you’ll be guided through the process of crafting your very own Hawaiian coconut hat (Papale Niu). Feel immersed in the world of the coconut as you explore the plant's cultural significance, learn how to care for your hat (which can last over 20 years!), and connect with a skill passed down through generations.Whether you're a beginner or an experienced weaver, this is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Hawaiian heritage and help keep this important tradition alive.
Artist's Bio: Born and raised in Tahiti, Leilani Pearson learned the art of weaving at a young age. She moved to Hawaii to study at the University of Hawaii, fell in love with the islands, and made it her home. She now resides in Maui and has found her passion in farming Gardenias, hosting workshops, and crafting Specialty Lei and Haku, combining Traditional techniques from the old to the Modern.
