Come join NRHT, Inc. and Putnam Parks & Pathways in upgrading the scenic Hamrick Station Trail in southwest Putnam County with this monthly series of volunteer events this spring/summer. Opened in 2023 as a 3-mile rustic rail-trail to let trail users enjoy this beautiful and varied area of Putnam County, a few areas of its first mile have been found to have good potential to work even better with slight rerouting.Work gloves, shovels, handsaws, and limb-loppers will be very useful as we clear brush and small trees from a few sections of the former railroad bed to move the natural surface trail from the adjacent side-sloped surface. In addition, we will clear honeysuckle and other invasive plants from those areas. Most sessions will be Saturday mornings, but the first scouting session will be a Thursday morning.
This series was inspired by last year's successful NRHT, Inc. initiative to help Healthy Communities of Henry County clear brush to extend their NRHT 0.3 miles across a bridge and to the Lewisville Cemetery.
