Step into the heart of Denver’s jazz legacy with Purnell Steen & The Five Points Ambassadors, performing live at Spangalang Brewery on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, as part of Five Points Jazz Roots – A Black History Month Celebration.

This free, public event, sponsored by the Five Points Business Improvement District, brings together one of Denver’s most celebrated jazz ensembles for an afternoon of swinging rhythms, rich melodies, and a deep connection to Five Points’ musical heritage.

Five Points Jazz Roots also features live jazz performances in venues along Welton Street on both Saturdays in February, honoring the neighborhood’s storied past as the "Harlem of the West."

A Denver jazz legend, Purnell Steen is a pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music is deeply rooted in the history of Five Points. For decades, he has been a passionate advocate for preserving and celebrating the city’s jazz heritage.

As the leader of The Five Points Ambassadors, Steen pays tribute to the great musicians who once called the neighborhood home, including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and George Morrison.

His performances blend classic swing, blues, and bebop, offering audiences a timeless and authentic jazz experience. Whether playing in intimate venues or on festival stages, Steen’s music keeps the spirit of Five Points alive.
