Plus, drop off any new or gently used coats to The Summit tent. All donated items will go towards our Share The Warmth coat drive with One Warm Coat and The Power of Life Foundation to provide coats to those in need throughout Birmingham.
What to Bring
We are accepting PUMPKINS ONLY. Pumpkins must not have non-biodegradable items on them such as: excess paint, glitter, googly eyes, stickers and candles. As the pumpkins are turned to compost, these items contaminate the compost.
Why compost Pumpkins?
Composting is nature’s way of recycling organic materials. It is a process that allows organic matter to decompose and form compost—a nutrient-rich soil amendment (said more plainly, a fabulous natural fertilizer). Composting organic materials provides many environmental benefits including: (1) reduces waste sent to landfills, (2) reduces greenhouse gas emissions, (3) reduces the amount of water in landfills, where it must be monitored to avoid groundwater contamination. Pumpkins are 90% water which is great for our soil, not so good in our landfills.
