——— PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING (UK)FR/

Public Service Broadcasting, since their 2009 debut, have used archival narratives to create cinematic rock and orchestral music, tackling subjects like the human ascent of Everest, confronting Nazism, and exploring space. Their 2023 live album This New Noise, recorded at the BBC Proms, celebrated the national broadcaster, reflecting their ongoing exploration of human history and spirit.
Their latest album, The Last Flight, focuses on the final journey of Amelia Earhart, the pioneering aviator who disappeared in 1937 while attempting to circumnavigate the globe. Earhart’s bravery and extraordinary achievements are at the heart of the album, with tracks like “Towards The Dawn” and “Electra” celebrating her adventurous spirit and the iconic aircraft she flew. Other tracks explore her personal philosophy and relationships, including “The Fun Of It,” featuring Berlin's Andreya Casablanca, and “A Different Kind Of Love,” reflecting her progressive marriage to George Putnam.
The album also captures the tragedy of Earhart’s disappearance, most poignantly in the track “Howland,” which includes manipulated transmissions of Earhart’s final communications. The immersive experience is created through the use of voice actors and recreated archival sounds, such as cockpit audio, which heightens the emotional weight of her final moments.
Ultimately, The Last Flight celebrates Earhart’s enduring legacy, not as a tale of failure, but as one of adventure, freedom, and the pursuit of life’s beauty, encapsulating her spirit even as her mystery endures.
