Public Meeting for all with concerns over the Malvern Hills Bill; 2 outside speakers

PUBLIC MEETING: TRUTH BEHIND THE NEW MALVERN HILLS BILL
When: SATURDAY 2.30pm START.
Where: CHRISTCHURCH HALL, Avenue Road, Malvern.
There will be 2 GUEST SPEAKERS with local and County political standing who completely share MEPG’s/Levy Payers concerns. Please come and hear what they have to say.
The need for a Public Meeting becomes very clear when you read the "Fables" published by Malvern Hills Trust (MHT) on its website.
FABLE 1:
"The new Private Bill will be a single, clear piece of legislation, easier to follow and use."
Really?
If that were true, why were none of the Trustees supporting the Bill prepared to defend their position before the Select Committee?
The facts speak for themselves:
• The proposed new Bill runs to 108+ pages.
• The longest existing Malvern Hills Act is just 30 pages.
• The 1995 Act is only 18 pages.
That doesn’t sound "clearer" or "easier to follow"?
FABLE 2:
"Replacing the Act with one modern consolidated piece of legislation."
This is simply not the case.
The proposed Bill is not a consolidation of the existing Acts. It is an entirely new Act, introducing fundamental changes to the way Malvern Hills Trust operates.
Those changes will have lasting consequences and, in our view, will reduce the public's protections and rights over the Hills and Commons—despite the fact it is the public who largely fund their upkeep.
The public deserves facts, not spin.
This is exactly why a Public Meeting has been called, 5TH SEPTEMBER 2.30pm. People have a right to hear the evidence, ask questions, and understand what is really being proposed before these far-reaching changes become law.
Unlike MHT meetings, we will not require questions to be submitted in advance. Genuine public engagement means people should be free to ask the questions that matter to them, openly and without censorship. Transparency means answering difficult questions, not deciding in advance which ones can be asked.
Please share this post so others can make up their own minds based on the facts.
