#Highlights on Kidney diseases in Ghana1. Ghana has alarming levels of chronic kidney diseases.
2. Uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure coupled with poor dietary habits are the main causes of chronic kidney diseases in Ghana (Ghana Kidney registry).
3. Though, we all have two (2) kidneys, chronic kidney disease most likely affects both kidneys leading to kidney failure.
4. The average minimum cost of dialysis is GHC 500 cedis in Ghana per session, which you will need 3 sessions in week amounting to GHC 1500 cedis minus extra cost for labs.
5. Averagely people with dialysis spent over GHC2000.00 in a week to maintain their health.
6. Kidney transplant is complex and complicated and not all bodies except other people's kidneys.
7. The average cost of kidney transplant is over GHC 200, 000 minus plane ticket and other hidden expenditure since it's not done in Ghana even if you are fortunate to get a kidney donor.
