Public Input Session #2: Ward Boundary Redistricting

The City of Morgantown's Ward Boundary Commission will host two public input sessions later this month to gather community feedback as part of its ongoing review of the city's ward boundaries.
Residents are invited to attend either of the following meetings to learn more about the process, review proposed materials and maps, and provide input directly to Commission members and city staff.

6-7 p.m. at the Wiles Hill Community Center Gymnasium

In addition to the in-person sessions, residents may review project information and submit feedback through the Commission's virtual public engagement platform at https://arcg.is/GiLPv0.
The Story Map contains information similar to the materials that will be available during the public meetings, including maps, background information and an online survey.
The Ward Boundary Commission is an independent body of seven Morgantown residents appointed to ensure that the city's ward boundaries remain as balanced as possible.
Under the City Charter, the Commission is required to review ward boundaries every two years using registered voter totals and the most recent population data. The Commission is responsible for promoting a balanced distribution of residents among Morgantown's seven wards ahead of each City Council election year.
When considering boundary adjustments, the Commission follows objective criteria established in the City Charter. Wards must be contiguous, strive for compactness, and, whenever practicable, follow existing street lines and voting precinct boundaries. In an effort to pursue logical and reasonable ward boundaries, the Commission also considers neighborhoods, terrain demarcations, and operates within a statistical margin.
Residents who are unable to attend either meeting are encouraged to participate through the online Story Map and survey.
