Indigenous Australians have been utilising dark sky knowledges for millennia. This presentation demonstrates the incredible range of scientific and cultural knowledge held by indigenous Australians. The presentation includes sky figures and stories from around Australia. Our presenter, Dr Tim Patston, has been involved in astronomy since early childhood when his father founded the NSW Astronomical Society and the Belfield observatory. Tim is a researcher and educator across all levels of Australian education. Tim conducts talks and workshops throughout Australia, celebrating the incredible depth of knowledge of our First Nations peoples, and is dedicated to collaborating with Indigenous Australians to preserve knowledge language and culture.
The evening starts indoors at 8PM with a multimedia talk and Q&A then moves outside with the telescopes underneath the night sky. Please dress appropriately for being outdoors and on a grassy or uneven surface.
