PUBLIC HEARING: Data Center Zoning Ordinance
Advertisement
The public hearing for draft 7 of the data center zoning ordinance is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16 at 6 p.m. at Solon Township Hall. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME ⏰
We pleaded with the Planning Commission to schedule the hearing for a later date in January that would be more accommodating to residents, but they denied this request.
🛡️ This ordinance will be our only line of defense against the proposed 800-acre Meta data center that already has a signed 1 GW agreement with Consumers Energy.
We’ve been advocating for a stronger ordinance since the first draft was released in February, and draft 7 is still missing key protections like:
❌ Numerical allowances for water and wastewater usage
❌ Setting the maximum area for lot sizes
❌ 1,000ft setbacks for residential properties
❌ Requirements for disclosing conflicts of interest
❌ Prohibiting dewatering
👉 The public hearing is the last step before the zoning ordinance would be sent to the board for a vote. Depending on how the Planning Commission decides to vote, this could potentially be our LAST CHANCE to give input or suggest changes.
The attendance and public comments of every person matters. We had an incredible turnout at the first hearing in June, and it would be wonderful to have such a strong show of support from the community again!
The biggest gift you can give this holiday season is your participation ❤️
